VIVAnews - As an attempt to facilitate travelling BlackBerry users, XL Axiata (XL) launched flat roaming tariff in seven countries.

The countries are Malaysia (through Celcom operator), Singapore (M1), Cambodia (Hello), Bangladesh (Aktel), Sri Lanka (Dialog), Hongkong (SmartTone) and Japan (Softbank).

The service, which is claimed by XL as the first in the world, offers Rp 25 thousand /day of flat tariff (for XL post-paid subscribers) and Rp 50 thousand / day (for pre-paid users). The service allows XL BlackBerry users to access data while overseas with relatively cheaper tariff than other services.

“There has never been any BlackBerry prepaid that can be used for international data roaming. We’re the first in the world,” XL Marketing Director Nicanor V Santiago said at the launch of XL BlackBerry Roaming services in Jakarta on Tuesday, January 26.

The service, according to Santiago, was established by XL together with several operators that have become members of Axiata Group and XL international partner network.

To activate the service, prior to departure, users only have to register by simply pressing *123# and chose Internet and BlackBerry package continued by BlackBerry Roaming.

“So, they don’t have to go to the XL Center. The registration can be done through text messaging,” Santiago said.

The users can also type BB (space) Roaming and send it to 568. Afterwards, type Ya (space) Roaming and send it to 568. To stop the subscription, type Roaming (space) off and send it to 568.

Unfortunately, unlike pre-paid users, post-paid subscribers have to register by coming to the nearest XL Center.

The service will be applicable from today to December 31, 2010. For services using Softbank, the subscription will only valid until March 31, 2010. The service will be automatically stopped upon the customers’ arrival in Indonesia.
