VIVAnews - A Japanese national, Ichikawa Katsuwo, 78, was found dead in a Block B cell at Detention Center for Foreigners on Jalan Peta Selatan, Kalideres, West Jakarta, Friday, Dec 19.

The detainee allegedly died due to mental disorder. After his plans to get married was ruined, he became very depressed.

Based on information from Michael, a Liberian detainee, Katsuwo was transferred from Depok Immigration detention.

Chief of Depok's Immigration Supervision Sub-section, Rahmat, said that the Japanese Embassy had in fact taken care of the victim's immigration issues. "Katsuwo was supposed to be deported tonight," said Rahmat.

Rahmat said that that, based on information from the Japanese Embassy, Katsuwo's body will be cremated in Dadap, Tangerang.

Katsuwo arrived in Indonesia in September 2006 and was granted a tourist visa for a month. He intended to get married in the country. But the plan fell through.

Katsuwo violated the Immigration Law by overstaying. The Japanese was finally detained by Depok Immigration and was transferred to Kalideres Detention Center.
