Jakarta's High-rises Endure Quake:Governor

VIVAnews - Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo claimed that Jakarta's high-rises have adopted Japan's technology in their development which will ensure as much endurance as Japan's skyscrappers. 

"We've gone down the line of Japanese building standards. So, theoretically, our [buildings] are as strong as those raised in Japan," said Fauzi in Jakarta, today, in response to the recent massive quake which struck Japan and spawned a ferocious tsunami.

Fauzi said the development of Jakarta's high-rises was closely monitored by building consultants. In fact, the Jakarta governor is not convinced about the strength of many three- and four-story buildings in the Indonesian capital that have been largely set up without proper supervision.

"Most earthquake victims are found buried under the rubbles of such a building," he said.
