VIVAnews - The Jakarta administration denies assumption saying that the Indonesian capital will have another huge flood by 2012, resembling the one which took place earlier in 2007.

Chief of Water Management Agency of Jakarta, Tarzuki, said the great flood will only recur within the next 200 years.

"The 2007 flooding happened only once in 200 years," said Tarzuki.

The 2007 flooding was caused by the high intensity of rainfall in Jakarta, and upstream area of Depok and Bogor. In addition, high tides on the coastal area of Jakarta added to the problem.

"The 2007 flooding was a result of rains continuously falling in three days, making a total of 76 non-stop hours," he said.

He acknowledged that if there is extreme rainfall by 2012, flooding is still possible.
