VIVAnews – The Ministry of Cooperatives and Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises (UKM), Syarief Hasan, proposed tax exemption for entrepreneurs who earn less than Rp300 million.

“The issue is being discussed by the government,” he said today, Jan 24.

Syarief said that the entrepreneurs who earn less than Rp300 million are pioneer micro-entrepreneurs. Therefore, this policy is intended to assist them in developing and strengthening their business.

“The tax on small- and medium-sized enterprises is not yet final. It will be finalized next month,” he said.

So far, he added, the 53-55 million Indonesian micro-entrepreneurs are the government’s main priority.

“If we are trying to help them, then we should give them more support so they can be better,” said Syarief.

However, Syarief said that the policy is not without its own problems because the possibility of entrepreneurs who manipulate their income is still high.

“Many already have stronger grounds. But they at times still claim themselves as part of small- and medium-sized enterprises,” he said.

Syarief said he hoped that the in the future the policy will impose 0.5 – 3 percent tax to entrepreneurs who earn Rp300 million or more.
