Minister: "It Shouldn't be Just One Percent"

VIVAnews – Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Hatta Rajasa, welcomed the willingness of two largest gold mining companies in Indonesia, PT Freeport Indonesia and PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara, to renegotiate their mining contracts. 

“They have just expressed their willingness for renegotiation,” said Hatta Rajasa in Jakarta, today, Feb 21. 

Hatta declared that the government will soon discuss the points of the renegotiation contract, one of which specifies issues on royalty.  “Of course it should not be just one percent,” he said. 

In addition to discussing about the royalty, the contract renegotiation will also include 5 other points, such as: the work area, the contract extension, the management’s or refinery’s obligations, the divestiture obligations, and the overseas user’s obligations.  

The Indonesian President has moreover signed Presidential Decree No.3/2012 on the Assessment Team for Work Contract Agreement and Mining Contract Agreement (PKP2B). The Decree specifies that the Coordinating Minister for the Economysits as the Team Leader; the Minister of Energy & Mineral Resources, Jero Wacik, as the Administrator; and the Directorate General of Mineral & Energy, Thamrin Sihite, as the Secretary.
