VIVAnews - United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton pledged that she will discuss Indonesia's proposal for the bilateral swap agreement when she gets back to Washington. She agreed that the Indonesian economy should be maintained.

"The United States supports the government, which has shown quite a performance," said Clinton as quoted by Finance Minister Sri Mulyani on Thursday, Feb. 19.

Mulyani said they discussed the global financial crisis, which has affected the economy of various countries across the globe.

"Especially for the United States, it is a country that may supply more US dollar," said Finance Minister. Indonesia, as an emerging country, will have more stability that can be guaranteed if there is a kind of bilateral support from the United States, especially the swap agreement.

"Pak Hassan [Wirajuda - Foreign Minister] and the President talked about the issue to Hillary. Hillary said she would bring the matter to Washington and discuss it with US Secretary of the Treasury," said Mulyani.

Regarding the materialization of the swap agreement, she said that if it is agreed upon then it will be immediately followed up. Asked about the amount involved, Mulyani replied that "If the Chiang Mai Initiative is put into consideration, we may get US$12 billion," she said.
