Cold Lava Flood Villages at Mt. Kelud

VIVAnews - Heavy rainfall in the Mt. Kelud area caused cold lava to flood its surroundings. Seven villages have been affected.

Based on the information received by VIVAnews from the Disaster Management Agency on Wednesday, Feb. 25, the cold lava flood that happened on Monday, Feb. 23, started from 3 p.m. and lasted until 9 p.m.

The flooded villages are located in Puncu, Pare, and Kepung sub-districts, Kediri regency, East Java. The heavy rainfall caused Mt. Kelud's crater to be unable to contain the rainfall's overflow.

The flood tore down a house and flooded 30 other homes. A truck was also washed away by the mud flood. According to the Disaster Management Agency, the local authorities have already given out aid to the victims.

The aid consists of 8,000 plastic sacks, 75 logs, and 40 bamboo mats. The local authorities, evacuation team, along with the local inhabitants cleaned and moved the logs that clogged the river's flow using heavy equipments.
