VIVAnews - Komodo Island has been nominated the new seven wonders of the world. According to Director General of Marketing at the Department of Culture and Tourism, Sapta Nirwandar, the position of Komodo Island slides down to 12 in this week's list.

"Last week, it was ranked 11," he said on Monday, March 2.

The Komodo Island is categorized as national forest/park, competing with 57 other contestants including the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, Philippines. According to Nirwandar, the Indonesian people are requested to participate in the campaign to avoid the incident on Borobudur Temple from occurring once again. "We must join [the voting]. Otherwise, we will be unknown [to the world]," he said.

As a promotional measure, the Department of Tourism will include Dwiki Darmawan as campaigner. He will be campaigning through music. "We are teaming up with the the World Peace Orchestra to make known of the Komodo Island as one of the seven wonders of the world," he added.

In addition to Komodo Island, other nominated Indonesian natural tourist attractions are including Toba Lake and Mt. Krakatau. The new seven natural wonders is held by the New Open World Foundation working together with The United Nations Office for Partnerships. The organization was the one which decided on last year seven wonders of the world and eliminated Borobudur Temple from the list.
