Mandiri Boosts Micro Credit

VIVAnews - PT Bank Mandiri Tbk us planning to boost micro business loan from Rp 3 trillion in 2008 to Rp 4.2 trillion in 2009.

"In 2009, the disbursement in micro credit reaches Rp 350 billion per month," said Director of Micro & Retail Banking at Bank Mandiri, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, on Tuesday, April 21.

Bank Mandiri sets micro credit's interest rate by between 1.2 percent and 2 percent per month. The average credit provided to the customers reaches around Rp 15 million. Meanwhile, the number of micro customers in Bank Mandiri is around 300,000, with 20,000 new customers.

Bank Mandiri will also add 400 new outlets of micro business unit to 1,000 across the archipelago. Most of the loans from Bank Mandiri go to trade sector.

According to him, the more banks involved in micro business sector, the more positively it will be for the economy because the sector is not affected by the crisis.
