President Jokowi Launches COVID-19 Vaccine Made in Indonesia

VIVA – President Joko Widodo makes a working visit to Bandung, West Java, Thursday, October 13, 2022. Also, President Jokowi launches the IndoVac. This vaccine produced and made in Indonesia at PT Bio Farma.

"This morning, I launch the IndoVac vaccine produced by PT Bio Farma," Jokowi stated on Thursday.

On that occasion, President Jokowi asked Ministers to support and encourage vaccine development programs in Indonesia. Jokowi wants Indonesia to be more independent in the needs of the COVID-19 vaccine.

"The Minister of SOEs, the Minister of Health, please continue to encourage Bio Farma. So, later, it will generate greater revenue for the country and we have independence and stand on our feet in vaccine matters," President Jokowi remarked.

President Jokowi revealed that the production capacity of the IndoVac vaccine reached around 20 million doses this year. This number will continue to increase to 40 million doses in the coming year.

"The capacity will be around 20 million this year, the President Director said earlier. Next year, it could be 40 million. If the market still needs it, it can reach 120 million doses of vaccine," Joko Widodo remarked.

The Indonesian president also appreciated all parties who have supported the development of a domestically produced COVID-19 vaccine. The Indonesian-made vaccine can be developed in a short period of 1.5 years.

"This is the hard work of young human resources in working on a new vaccine, it has taken IndoVac from the beginning until now 1.5 years, silence never makes a sound and suddently, there is IndoVac," Joko Widodo explained.

In addition to the launch of the IndoVac vaccine, President Jokowi reviewed the vaccine administration process for several residents.
