VIVA – President Joko Widodo reminded and convinced all parties not to doubt the Capital of the Archipelago (IKN) because this long-term project until 2045 has a powerful legal basis and political support.
At the “Ibu Kota Nusantara: Sejarah Baru Peradaban Baru” in Jakarta on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, Joko Widodo said that IKN development had been stated in Law Number 3 of 2022 and had been approved by 93 percent of the factions in the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR).
"What's lacking? If there are still people who are not sure, what else is missing? There's no need to ask questions anymore," he said.
President Joko Widodo explained that moving the capital city from DKI Jakarta to the IKN Nusantara in East Kalimantan was not just moving the ministry buildings or the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Palaces, but creating a new work culture and mindset.
Jokowi stated that the capital of the archipelago will be built to become a future smart city based on forests and nature.
“This (concept) does not yet exist in the world. Please look for it because there is no difference yet” Joko Widodo remarked.
As many as 70 percent of the IKN area is a green area. The land that will be used to build IKN is a production forest, not a natural forest. The forest is also a monoculture with one type of eucalyptus tree that is cut every six to seven years.
“This is what we want to return to a heterogeneous forest which is expected to become a tropical rain forest again in Kalimantan. For that, the first thing we have prepared there is the nursery center which will begin construction in June 2022. The nursery area is approximately 16 hectares and the reservoir is seven hectares,” Joko Widodo explained.
