VIVA – The 2022 Australian Open ended on November 20 at the Quay Center, Sydney. From five numbers competed in the 2022 Australian Open final, China became the overall champion after bringing home three titles and South Korea won two titles. This made Indonesia fail to win the title.

1. Only One Indonesian Representative in the Final

One Indonesian representative managed to fight for the final ticket from the women's singles sector, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung. She made it into the final after defeating the Chinese representative, Han Yue.

Despite losing the first game 18-21, Gregoria managed to win the next game because of a persistent game and survived with 21-16 and 21-14. She also said she learned a lot from the defeat against Han Yue at the Hylo Open 2022.

2. Gregoria Mariska First Time Playing in a World Tour Final

Indonesian women's singles player, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung made it to the BWF world tour final for the first time after eliminating Chinese representative Han Yue in the semifinals of the 2022 Australian Open at the Quay Center, Sydney.

Unfortunately, in the final match, Gregoria had to accept defeat by South Korean representative, An Se-young who was the first seed.

3. Australia as Host Doesn't Get the Title

Australia certainly failed to have a title because Australian representatives had lost before the quarter-finals. It is known, in this Australian Open 2022 match, Nathan Tang and Sydney Tjonadi / Victoria Tjonadi women's doubles became the Australian representatives who advanced the furthest.

4. No Defending Champion

The champions in the previous editions of the Australian Open failed to defend their titles. The defending champions in the men's singles, women's singles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles sectors decided not to participate in the 2022 Australian Open.

The reigning women's doubles champions are the only ones to feature again in this year's edition. They are the women's doubles from Japan, Yuki Fukushima / Sayaka Hirota. Unfortunately, their steps must be stopped in the quarter-finals after being defeated by the Chinese women's doubles.

5. China Becomes the Overall Champion

China confirmed itself as the overall champion by winning three gold medals and one silver. One of the gold medals was won by Shi Yu Qi who defeated fellow Chinese player, Lu Guang Zu. Shi Yu Qi successfully reduced the junior's resistance in a long 69-minute match with a score of 21-19, 18-21, and 21-5.

Meanwhile, the other two Chinese titles were presented by Zheng Shu Xian/Zheng Yu (mixed doubles) and Liu Yu Chen/Ou Xuan Yi (men's doubles).
