Jakarta – Planning a dream wedding can be a costly endeavour but the good news is the less expensive the wedding, the more likely the marriage is to last.

Recently, there is a couple from Surabaya that held an expensive wedding like in Crazy Rich Asians movie. This is the real version of it, Gwen Ashley and Ryan Harris couple.

Their wedding was held super luxuriously at one of the 5-star hotels in Surabaya. The wedding was estimated that the costs were IDR 75 billion.

Even, the wedding souvernir was a gray Hermes Mosaique au 24 Platinum square plate whish is known to cost IDR 2.2 million. It was the fantastic price for the souvernir wedding, especially in Indonesia.

But there's also a study related to the luxury wedding party above is the result of research from economics professors named Andrew Francis-Tan and Hugo M Mialon, as reported from the Independent site.

Where both have conducted surveys with the help of 3,000 respondents in the United States who are and have been married.

According to the study, the amount that couples spend on an engagement ring and the ceremony is inversely associated with marriage duration - as is the importance placed on looks.

With engagement rings, the researchers found that the more money spent, the more likely it was to divorce - especially once the cost of the ring reaches more than $2,000.

“Specifically, in the sample of men, spending between $2,000 and $4,000 on an engagement ring is associated with 1.3 times greater hazard of divorce as compared to spending between $500 and $2,000,” the paper reads.

The same is true for the price of the ceremony – with weddings that cost less than $1,000 showing a significant decrease in the likelihood of divorce and weddings costing more than $20,000 increasing the likelihood by 1.6 times in the sample of women.

“Reporting that one’s partner’s looks were important in the decision to marry is significantly associated with shorter marriage duration," said Professor Mialon.

Even so, not all married couples who have held lavish and magnificent parties just divorce. It was also found that those who spent a lot of money on their honeymoon were actually associated with a low risk of divorce.

Instead of spending a lot of money on a wedding party, it is better to save up for a relaxing post-wedding vacation, and save for a future life. Isn't that right?

A post-wedding vacation together can have a positive impact and other wonderful benefits for you and your partner's relationship.
