Jakarta – Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Erick Thohir announced new rules regarding a day off for employees of state-owned companies on Friday after they have worked for 40 hours.

Minister Thohir noted the importance of workers' mental health as around 70 percent of the younger generation has mental health problems.

"That's why we're encouraging the 'Compact Work Schedule'. If it's more than 40 hours, they have the alternative to have Friday off," Minister Thohir said at the SOE Corporate Communication and Sustainability Summit (BCCOMSS) 2024 on Sunday.

He emphasized that this new policy is not to encourage employees to be lazy. However, it is for better mental health.

"We are not encouraging you to be lazy. You can register, twice a month every Friday as an alternative to taking a vacation," the Minister informed.

According to the Minister, currently state-owned companies have also provided various facilities such as daycare centers. This is a special concern for state-owned companies.

"How do we have daycare centers now? We don't want prejudice in the workplace," he concluded.
