Jakarta – State-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura Indonesia or InJourney Airports recorded 4.1 million passengers at the 35 airports it operates during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period from April 3 to 11, 2024.
The number of passengers reflects an increase of seven percent compared to the 2023 Eid al-Fitr period, when the figure stood at 3.8 million.
“We recorded a relatively good growth in traffic compared to the traffic during last year’s Eid command post (period). This is a very positive outcome amid InJourney Airports’ efforts toward full recovery,” the Angkasa Pura Indonesia president director Faik Fahmi said in a statement released on Friday.
The Angkasa Pura Indonesia also recorded 31,779 aircraft movements during the nine days of the Eid al-Fitr Command Post’s operation, reflecting a growth of 6 percent compared to 30,102 in the corresponding period of the previous year.
The high traffic during the Eid al-Fitr period was supported by several airports, namely Soekarno-Hatta Airport, which served 1.3 million passengers, and I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali, which recorded 575 thousand passengers.
Moreover, Surabaya’s Juanda Airport welcomed 381 thousand passengers, Makassar’s Sultan Hasanuddin Airport 259 thousand passengers, and Medan’s Kualanamu Airport 201 thousand passengers.
He informed that during the two days of Eid al-Fitr on April 10 and 11, Agkasa Pura Indonesia recorded 677 thousand passengers and 5,113 aircraft movements at 35 airports.
Compared to the same period of 2023, the figures show a growth of one percent in terms of both passenger traffic and aircraft movement.
Fahmi remarked that after the peak of the Eid al-Fitr homecoming exodus on April 6, his side is now preparing for the peak of the return flow, which is projected on April 15.
“Obviously, we are ensuring that infrastructure, operations, and personnel are in the best condition so that we can ensure the smooth and safe operation of flights during this busy period,” he concluded.
