Aussie Top Lawmaker to Visit Indonesia Again

VIVAnews - Mr Harry Jenkins, MP, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Australian Parliament, will visit Indonesia tomorrow to strengthen ties with Indonesian counterparts.

The Australian Embassy in Jakarta announced that Mr Jenkins will call on the Speaker of People’s Representative Council Dr Marzuki Alie and attend a meeting of the International Parliamentary Union’s Asia-Pacific Working Group being hosted by Indonesia.

“We are pleased to welcome back Harry Jenkins to Indonesia. He is a frequent visitor to the country and a good friend of Indonesia,” said Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Greg Moriarty.

“Mr Jenkins is a very experienced Parliamentarian and he will use his visit to discuss ways to deepen democracy in the Asia Pacific region,” Ambassador Moriarty said.

During his visit, Mr Jenkins will visit the Istiqlal Mosque as a gesture of respect and friendship towards Indonesian Islam.

Australia and Indonesia are members of the 28-member Asia Pacific Group of the International Parliamentary Union.

The Union promotes world-wide parliamentary dialogue and works for peace and co-operation among peoples and for the firm establishment of representative democracy.
