BHP Biliton Stops Tambang Haju Project

VIVAnews - Australia-based coal mining company BHP Billiton will stop the Tambang Haju project in Laung Tuhup sub-district, Murung Raya regency, Central Kalimantan managed by PT Lahai Coal.

PT Lahai Coal President Director Indra Diannanjaya said that there will be layoffs resulting from the plan.

"The proper test set out over Lampunut block will also be halted," he addressed a press conference on Tuesday, June 9.

He stated that the project will be discontinued because it is no longer profitable.

Haju coal mining project is one of the seven mining coals in Maruwai block. The project was aimed at investigating the development of open coal mining.

The Haju mining construction is the first-phase coal project in Maruwai, started in June 2008.
