Survey: Yudhoyono’s Popularity Increases

VIVAnews – Vice Chair of Democratic Party, Ahmad Mubarok, said that negative campaigning or “black campaigning” by political adversaries do not decrease the popularity of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. “Instead, people become more sympathetic,” Mubarok said to VIVAnews.

Mubarok said that this was proven by the results of a survey done by Indonesian Survey Agency (LSI), which shows that the Democratic Party, to which Yudhoyono belongs, gains the highest public interest (16.8 percent). The Functional Group Party (Golkar) and Indonesian Democratic Party Struggle (PDI-P) follow at 15.9 percent and 14.2 percent respectively.

According to Mubarok, Yudhoyono’s popularity while in office is consistent. He said that this is because Yudhoyono’s icon has the strongest influence compared to presidential candidates from other political parties.

However, said Mubarok, the Democratic Party notes that the majority of Yudhoyono’s supporters, he said, are scholars – high school and college graduates. Meanwhile, a majority of 2009 election voters would be from the lower class, or elementary school graduates. According to Mubarok, Megawati Soekarnoputri dominates that segment of voters.
