VIVAnews - Six hikers from Sunan Kalijaga Islamic University’s (UIN) Adventure Club in Yogyakarta, together with 31 rescue hikers, have arrived at the rescue team’s main station at the foot of Mount Salak in Curug Nangka, West Java at around 12am on Monday, February 1.
After taking a rest, the hikers and the rescue team are planning to leave the station and head to Bogor on Monday noon. “The hikers will return to UIN Jakarta, where they prepared everything for the journey,” one of the rescue team members in Bogor, Iwan Firdaus told tvOne.
He also said the evacuation ran smoothly. All hikers and team members are in good condition. “As soon as they arrived at the station, we performed a medical check-up and gave them a chance to get some rest,” he said.
Right now, the hikers are staying at the team’s main station in Curug Nangka. They are still not able to provide any information due to their physical condition. However, Firdaus said the climb was part of the nature club’s educational process.
“I’d say they are disobedient hikers because the hiking routes were closed but they were still going,” he said.
Regarding the sanction, Firdaus said it was not part of his duties. “I’ve done my job as a rescue team member. It’s the Mount Halimun National Park Agency-Salak (TNGHS) who has the power to impose the sanction”
