VIVAnews- During the G20 forum, the Indonesian government will urge countries with excess budget deficits to cut the number. Indonesia will also give its support to each country in reducing the level of dependency to debts.
Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo said the request was based on Indonesia’s experience during the crisis in 1997 and 1998, which was also experienced by several European countries such as Greece.
“In G20, we’ll be urging countries with overly high amount of debts or budget deficits to perform reduction,” the minister said at the office of Finance Ministry in Jakarta on Thursday, June 24.
He also said the government was asking the countries to be committed to the plan.
Martowardojo continued by saying that the forum’s main topic would be about global economy and possible efforts to create economic development in each country in a strong, sustainable and balance way.
The Indonesian government will also discuss about improving international financial institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank and other multilateral agencies.
“We (the members of G20) will talk about how to conduct reform and revise financial regulatory. We’ll also be discussing about building infrastructure, reforming the regulations to improve the condition of financial industry as well as trading and investment”.
