VIVAnews - Prediction has it that the European debt crisis will not affect the Asian economy including Indonesia. DBS Bank's Managing Director of Economic and Currency Research David Carbon said that the European crisis will only delay the global economic recovery.

"The current European debt crisis will not significantly affect Asia," said Devid today.

According to David, the current situation on the contrary highlights the better economic growth in Asia. In fact, the consumption and expenditure rates in Asia may grow six time higher compared to the United States.

"Asia can grow six times faster. This initiates the recovery of global economy," he said.

However, David acknowledged that the European crisis has once put much pressure on the interest rate in Asian countries.

However, David predicted that the Asian economic growth this year may reach 7.7 percent. Consumption has been the main trigger of the global economic growth.

Since the crisis occurred in Q3 of 2008, Asia's consumption rate has grown 17 percent compared to the United States at one percent, Japan at 0.5 percent and Europe at 0.7 percent.
