Man Paid as Substitute Prisoner in Indonesia

VIVAnews - Research Center on Anticorruption (Pukat) at Gadjah Mada University, was concerned over a case involving a hireling in the Level IIA Petitentiary, Bojonegoro, East Java.  

Pukat Director Zainal Mochtar Arifin calls on the Indonesian government to look into the matter seriously.

"This is a joke as regards law enforcement in Indonesia. It is the duty of state officers to investigate the case," Zainal told VIVAnews today, Jan 4. "There must be law officers who are into this game," he said.

A case was revealed in Bojonegoro Prison as a hireling named Karni, 50, was found substituting a prisoner called Kasiem, 55. The man was given the job with Rp 10 million of salary. 

Kasiem was imprisoned for involving in subsidized fertilizer case and was sentenced to 3 months and 15 days of imprisonment. The hireling case was discovered as Kasiem's family paid him a visit at the jail. The members of family were surprised upon seeing different man other than Kasiem was there behind the bars.
