VIVAnews - A number of Indonesian students attending universities in Egypt refuse to be evacuated home to Indonesia following the escalating political situation in the country.

"Most of the students who say no to the plan are those receiving scholarships," Chief of Middle East Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bambang Purwanto, told VIVAnews, today, Feb 1.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry believed that the refutation is a result of coming concerns over removal of scholarships and educational facilities. In addition, if the situation in Egypt resumes in no time, they are worried that no fund is available to fly back to the country.

Bambang however is yet in store of the accurate number of Indonesian students who are against the evacuation process.

Earlier, spokesperson of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Kusuma Habir, said the number of Indonesians living in Egypt reaches around 6,149, 4,297 out of which are students.

For the time being, some Garuda Indonesia aircrafts have landed in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, preparing for another flights to the Cairo International Airport, Egypt.

Two other Indonesian airlines Batavia Air and Lion Air will also join the evacuation mission.
