VIVAnews - The soaring world oil prices, now touching US$100 per barrel, affect domestic fuel prices as Pertamax is tagged at Rp8,050 per liter. However, it remains unclear whether or not the government will apply control over subsidized fuel, Premium.
"Let's see whether or not the restriction will be put into effect by April," said acting Chief of Fiscal Policy Agency at the Ministry of Finance, Bambang Brodjonegoro, in Jakarta today, Feb 2.
According to Bambang, the government still closely observes the flux in world oil prices. Oil speculators are now bringing forward issues on revolt on the Nile as the ground in making projections.
"I believe that the [crisis in Egypt] is not significant because it only affects the market in Europe instead of Asia or Indonesia," he said.
Nonetheless, the Fiscal Policy Agency in its outlook states that between January and February, oil prices will be on the rise.
On the other hand, Executive Director of ReforMiner Institute, Pri Agung Rakhmanto, views that the measures in fuel control are illogical.
"If Pertamax fuel prices increase, the disparity between [Pertamax and Premium] will grow more. More people will seek for Premium fuel," he told VIVAnews today, Jan 2.
