More Corruption, State Losses Lessen

VIVAnews - Along the second half of 2010, as many as 272 cases of corruption committed in both state and provincial levels had been challenged. However, there was a rise in the number of recorded cases compared to the first semester of 2010. On the other hand, state losses from corruption between July 1 and December 31, 2010, were lower.

"In the first semester, state losses hit Rp2.1 trillion while the second half of 2010 registered Rp1.5 trillion of losses," said Coordinator of Investigation and Public Information Division of the Indonesia Corruption Watch, Agus Sunaryanto, today.

More suspects on corruption cases were put down at 716, higher than those listed in the first half of 2010 at 441.

Based on the amount of losses that all those cases inflicted against the government, financial sectors in provinces were injured Rp344.7 billion (44 cases); energy sector, Rp240.3 billion (4 cases); land sector, Rp143 billion (18 cases); taxes, Rp47.3 billion (8 cases); and infrastructure, Rp40.9 billion (53 cases).

Agus said the second semester of 2010 witnessed top corruption case which drew in PT Kutai Timur Energi.

"In addition, the fraud over regional budgets of Indragiri Hulu worth Rp116 billion and Langkat Regency between 2002 and 2007  worth Rp102 billion was deemed state's biggest losses in the second semester of 2010," said Agus.
