VIVAnews - Owners of minimarkets in the Indonesian capital fear of the Jakarta administration's plan to shut down 661 minimarkets in the city. The reason for this is that minimarket owners have never been summoned to discuss about data gathering over illegal minimarkets.

Acting Chief of Indonesia Retail Merchants Association (Aprindo) Central Board, Tutum Rahanta, expects the Jakarta administration maintain communication with retail merchants prior to announcing data collection.

"Retail business contributes to both provincial and state economy," said Tutum today, Feb 25.

In addition, Aprindo refused of being blamed by the Jakarta administration over the weak management of traditional markets in Jakarta. "It's not true that traditional markets will be better if no minimarkets are available," he said.

Minimarkets also offer items that are at times not available in traditional markets. "Minimarkets don't sell fresh meats," he said.

The Jakarta administration said in statement that 661 minimarkets established in the capital may be sealed. The hundreds of minimarkets are suspected of not holding official permits from the Jakarta administration of which regulation is stipulated in Gubernatorial Decree No.115/2006 on Delay of Minimarket Permit in Jakarta Province..

According to Jakarta administration spokesperson Hasan Basri Saleh, more minimarkets have been set up since the decree was issued.
