VIVAnews - Indonesian Attorney General's Office (AGO) failed to confiscate the frozen assets belonging to Hutomo Mandala Putra a.k.a Tommy Soeharto, the youngest son of the late former Indonesian President Soeharto, in BNP Paribas. Nonetheless, the AGO said it is capable of retaking the stolen assets kept in the country.

"We're assessing his assets that are saved here [in Indonesia] and are worth Rp 1.2 trillion," said Cahyaning Nurati, state attorney who handles the case on Tommy's assets, today, March 9.

Three cases, out of four, are concerned with an appeal filed by PT Timor Putra National against PT Bank Mandiri and Finance Minister. Indonesia's court cleared Tommy Soeharto of graft. Although court of appeals relieved Finance Ministry, the defendant, from a charge, Timor again won the case in the Court of Cassation.

"We, representing Finance Ministry and Bank Mandiri, proposed a judicial review and was approved," she said.

According to Cahyaning, the case deals with funds owned by Timor Putra National worth Rp 1.2 trillion, which is stashed in Bank Mandiri.

In addition to Timor case, the AGO also copes with civil case with defendant PT Vista Bella Pratama, PT Mandala Buana Bhakti, PT Humpuss, PT Timor Putra National, Hutomo Mandala Putra and Arizona Finance Limited.

Tommy's lawyer OC Kaligis said the three cases are settled. "I believe the Bela Vista and Timor cases are over," said Kaligis.

Earlier, the AGO failed to confiscate Tommy's assets abroad worth 36 millions euro after the Guernsey Supreme Courthad rejected the appeal.
