VIVAnews - Domestic prices of cooking oil, flour, instant noodle, and cattle food are affected by the high prices of global prices of crude palm oil, wheat, corn and soybean.
Extreme weather has boosted food prices in general both in global and domestic markets.
According to Chief of Inflation Team at Bank Indonesia, Arif Hartawan, the rise in food prices prior to the second half of 2011 has taken place in the whole region. However, Indonesia sees higher prices compared to other countries in the region.
"But the inflation rate slows down as several food prices fall. During February 2011, the inflation rate was at 0.13 percent (month to month), or 6.84 percent (year on year)," said Arif today.
Arif said the intensified inflation on food brings pressure toward core inflation.
Meanwhile, the government's plan to materialize fuel control affects the expectatation to inflation. People went anxious of the designed fuel control.
"The postponement to fuel control may cause people to have positive expectation. But the more delayed it is applied, the sooner there will be negative expectation."
