VIVAnews - Indonesian renowned journalist and author Rosihan Anwar died on Thursday at age 89 due to heart failure. Earlier this month, the late Rosihan attended hospital to have heart bypass surgery.
"This morning, he happened to have his breakfast before he complained about pain in his chest," said Ilham Bintang, Secretary of the Honorary Council of Indonesian Association of Journalists.
Rosihan received early education at HIS and MULO in Padang during the Dutch occupation. He continued his school to AMS in Yogyakarta and often participated in journalism workshop at Columbia University, New York.
His career began as reporter in Asia Raya newspaper during the Japanese invasion in early 1940s. The Soekarno administration shut down his newspaper Pedoman in 1961. Afterward, the Soeharto administration also banned the newspaper for the second time in 1970s in the aftermath of the notorious Malari riots on January 15, 1974.
In his long career, Rosihan has written more than 20 books. His latest book, “Backtrack to the Netherlands: 60 Years Journey of the 1949 Round Table Conference Journalist,” was published on his 88th birthday last year.
