VIVAnews - The government will continue building the Majapahit Park at Majapahit Museum compound in a small village of Trowulan, Mojokerto, East Java.
Secretary of Director General of History and Archaeology at the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Tourism, Suroso, said the project was commenced in 2009. "We're expecting that it will be completed by 2014," he said on Thursday.
Trowulan was in the past the capital of Indonesia's kingdom Majapahit.
It is figured that the project will require around Rp200 billion of budget.
He said the government allocated Rp10 billion of budget while this year, the amount increased to Rp15 billion.
The Majapahit Park is projected to be occupy an area of 9x11 kilometers without neglecting the local potentials such as cultural, economic, and social issues. "If the the park is improved, all commercial sectors will survive. People will be more affluent," he said.
A number of archaeologists and intellectuals protested against the development plan. They argued that the Majapahit Park violates law on historical sites. However, Suroso emphasized other benefits that the local communities will gain by the development. "We can learn about our past wisdoms through temples and other cultural heritages," he said.
