VIVAnews - Thick haze from forest fire still affects Pekanbaru, Riau. Last week, despite the lessening hotspots, dense smoke covered the city quite considerably.
Head of Pekanbaru Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics, Marzuki, said that visibility in Pekanbaru was only 150 meters on Friday morning. “The smoke was pretty thick this morning. From our observation, the visibility is only 150 meters,” Marzuki told VIVAnews.com.
This condition is not only due to the thick haze, but also the high humidity. “The short visibility only lasts until 8 AM. Now, the visibility has reached 3 kilometers,” he explained.
According to Marzuki, based on the satellite observation, the hotspots in Riau tend to decrease in number. “There are 45 spots in Sumatra in which nine of them are in Riau. Meanwhile, the temperature goes to normal at 32,7 Celsius,” Marzuki said.
The poor visibility in Pekanbaru had interrupted flight schedules in Sultan Syarif Kasim II Pekanbaru Airport. “Garuda and Lion Air, which were scheduled to fly to
Jakarta at 7 AM, must delay their flights for more than 30 minutes,” said Pekanbaru Airport Duty Manager SSK II, Gurit Setiawan.
