VIVAnews - The Public Works Agency of Jakarta plans to expand TransJakarta routes by constructing zone XI starting from Kampung Melayu and ends in Pulo Gebang, Bekasi. The Jakarta administration cuts down 1,502 trees along the future route to enable the development.
Chief of Jakarta Public Works Agency, Ery Baskoro, said the logging was made as an anticipation of the road construction.
Ery said the decision of the logging went through a meeting between The Public Works Agency, Housing Agency, Parks and Cemetery Agency and Transportation Agency.
He estimated that around 1,502 trees along Jalan Raya Bekasi, Jalan I Gusti Ngurah Rai and Jalan Sentra Primer in East Jakarta will be subjects to logging, which will take place in May 2011. The trees have average diameters of between 20 centimeters and 40 centimeters at 15 to 20 meters of height.
