46 Civil Servants Involved in Illegal Markets

VIVAnews - Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo took action against officials at the Jakarta administration who allegedly issued commercial permits for several minimarkets.

46 civil servants were found violating rules on the issuance of commercial permits for 13 minimarkets. Two out of the said numbers had been dead, 31 officials were retired, while 13 others are still registered as state employees.

The 13 active civil servants have been questioned by the Jakarta authorities.

According to data that spokesperson of the Jakarta administration, Hasan Basri Saleh, 1,868 minimarkets are registered. Of the amount, 425 minimarkets were approved of independent commercial business while 1,443 others have none of the licenses.

16 out of 425 minimarkets infringed rule on distances. It is stipulated in the regulation that a minimarket must have a minimum distance of 500 meters from any traditional markets.

"A remeasurement was carried out over the minimarkets. We then found out that the number decreased to 13. Of the final result, we decided to conduct investigation over civil servants who were involved in the issuance of of commercial permits over the said minimarkets," said Hasan Basri.
