VIVAnews - Downstream Oil and Gas Regulator revealed that up until May 2011 the number of illegal subsidized fuel sales reached 159.

"All cases have been investigated by the police," said spokesperson of the regulator, Adi Subagyo, on Tuesday.

Adi said the police are looking closely into 96 out of 159 cases. "Some have been imposed sanction," he said.

Last year, 600 cases of violation against subsidized fuel sales were found.

There are two common methods in selling illegal subsidized fuel: using jerrycans or modified cars; involving a staff at a state agency of which fuel allocation is offered to public at lower prices.

"The said fuel should have been distributed to members of certain agencies. In fact, it is channeled to industries and the people at lower prices," said Adi.
