VIVAnews – PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines is aiming to run the air routes to Western Indonesia. The company is also planning to add on the aircraft to reach the target.
“Our target is to close the year of 2011 with expansion. Not only in eastern part, but also western. Certainly for expansion to the western part, the increase in amount of aircraft is necessary,” said Merpati Nusantara Airlines Managing Director Sardjono Jhony Tjitrokusumo to VIVAnews at his office in Jakarta.
Sardjono said that the increase is also the company’s main priority in closing the year. “We will add on 23 Boeing aircraft, to the currently 13,” he said.
He went on that in order to reach the target, Merpati will use the revitalization and restructuring funds from the government. “The funds from the government is provided through PPA (State-Owned Asset Management Company),” said Sardjono.
So far, Sardjono added, Merpati is known as a prominent airline for eastern Indonesia. However, Merpati is actually strong in the country. “But due to the aircraft limitation, we’re only concentrating on eastern part,” he said.
Moreover, the expansion is based on the vision and mission that Merpati has been carrying out, namely to break isolations, to connect remote areas to major cities. “We will continue doing this,” he said.
