VIVAnews – The future of hundreds of children of Indonesian migrant workers who were raped is uncertain. Many of these children are now not treated well by their parents.
Based on the data of National Commission for Child Protection (Komnas Anak), about 215 under-five children may be abandoned. The number has not yet included the children in the shelters.
“When the migrant workers come home carrying a child, they must be embarrassed. Some children were entrusted in shelters,” National Commission for Child Protection Chairperson Arist Merdeka Sirait told VIVAnews today.
He was concerned that the children may be the victims of human trafficking. This is because, according to him, the state does not acknowledge the status of the children of rape victims. It is difficult for the children to obtain birth certificate.
Thus Arist called on the government to care about the children’s future. Their mother’s position as a rape victim should not be considered.
“What can the state do about it? This is still the state’s responsibility,” said Arist. The problem is bleaker because many of the children are in fact not liked by their parents.
