VIVAnews – Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) today declared the former General Treasury of Democratic Party, Muhammad Nazaruddin, a suspect. Nazaruddin became a suspect of the case of alleged bribery in the Youth and Sports Affairs Ministry.
“After the legal arguments are adequate, we declared him a suspect today,” said KPK Chairman Busyro Muqoddas after the UII Award bestowment at Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) in Kaliurang, Yogyakarta, today.
According to Busyro, the new status of Nazaruddin was only decided today. KPK will follow up this status change.
However, KPK acknowledged difficulties to bring Nazaruddin back to Indonesia. KPK hopes that the president can cooperate with Singaporean government directly to extradite Nazaruddin.
“It’s excellent if the president can have G to G cooperation with the country where Nazaruddin is allegedly hiding,” said the former judicial commission chairperson.
In this case KPK has already declared three suspects, namely Youth and Sport Affairs Ministry Secretary Wafid Muharram, Mindo Rosalina Manulang and Muhammad El Idris. The dossiers of Rosa and Idris have been handed to the general prosecutor. Muharram was still in the stage of investigation.
Nazaruddin fled to Singapore a day before the ban against him was issued. Nazaruddin denied being involved in this case. He went to Singapore with the excuse to take medication.
