The Ministry of Finance have urged the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to take any decision needed in no time to clarify the fuel control policy.

The Ministry argued that the fuel control policy is not yet ready to be implemented. "The President should have been firm in dealing with any conflicting ministries," said an economist Chatib Basri on Thursday, June 30.

In his opinion, the government must raise fuel prices if it is burdened with subsidies.

Chatib said the apt increase of premium fuel today is between Rp 1,500 and Rp 6,000 per liter. The fuel price rise will add to inflation rate by 2.1 percent, resulting to final rate of around 7-8 percent.

"It's normal to have such a high inflation since we have only seen average inflation of 7 percent," he said.

The government should really take aside possible political effects that may appear from the fuel price revisions.
