VIVAnews - US-based oil and gas company Chevron seeks to develop geothermal energy in West Sumatra.

"We'll see whether or not it is in line with the criteria we have," said Chevron Pacific Indonesia President Director, A Hamid Batubara, today.

Chevron now has two geothermal energy sources in Gunung Salak and Garut, West Java, in active operations. Total capacity of the two sources reaches 650 megawatt, 50 percent of Chevron's overall production in Indonesia.

West Sumatra Deputy Governor, Muslim Kasim, offered Chevron a chance to work on the potential geothermal energy sources in South Solok.

West Sumatra is figured to have potential geothermal energy reserves at 1,656 MW of capacity, situated in tens of different areas.
