VIVAnews - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has yet to make responses over the clash that killed 17 people in Papua. Presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said the President is not yet aware of the issue.

Julian said proper probes into the clash are important to be carried out in the first place. Meanwhile, Julian said, the coordinating minister for political, legal and security affairs still has not reported about the Papuan clash to the President. "Usually only after the investigation report is completed, then it will be submitted to the president," he said.
A clash between residents in Ilaga, Puncak Regency, Papua, occurred on July 31, 2011, claiming the lives of 17 people.
Papua Police has deployed one platoon to the scene. Reportedly, the situation there have been under control. "It is conducive, because the police also helped deploy a mobile brigade platoon," said Head of Public Relations Division of National Police (Polri) Headquarters, Anton Bahrul Alam.
According to Anton, currently all Ilaga police personnel and of the Mobile Brigade members were still on guard down around the district police station and the local General Election Commission office.
Anton said the clash was started with the burning of Tambuni Elvis's house, a public hall, an official car on Sunday. Elvis Tabuni is the Chairman of the Puncak Regency Regional House of Representatives, Papua, who also run for Puncak regional head.
The fire, Anton went on, was followed by a clash between the supporters of Elvis Tabuni and those of Simon Alom. Elvis Tabuni’s group claimed the arson was carried out by Simon Alom’s supporters.
