VIVAnews - The government has allocated around Rp400 billion of budget to support low-cost housing project. These funds are mainly used to finance the housing construction in East Nusa Tenggara for the former residents of East Timor.
According to Public Housing Minister Suharso Monoarfa, the funds amounting to Rp300 billion is for supporting the low-cost housing project in East Nusa Tenggara. It is estimated that these funds can be used to build 5,600 units of houses.
"This is in line with the president’s instruction of low-cost housing for former East Timor residents and the local community," said Suharso today, August 2.
The construction of houses in East Nusa Tenggara is expected to be realized soon. "We put out efforts so that it can be completed this year only," said Suharso.
Meanwhile, the remaining funds of the budget, the minister went on, will be used as cash aid for financing the housing. "That's a revolving cash aid fund," he said.
Previously, the government has prepared a blueprint for low-cost housing can not afford a price of around Rp20-26 million. The blueprint includes a spacious house, price, location of housing, development and implementation schedule.
The government will also allocate funds resulted from the savings of ministries and other institutions for people-oriented programs. One of the programs is the construction of affordable housing for the underprivileged.
"So, the target of the saving is Rp20 trillion. Now seemingly it is only Rp15 trillion. This is located in each of the respective ministries," said Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo in Jakarta.
According to Agus, the plans to use savings from the budget cut referred to a presidential instruction which emphasizes attention to lower-class people, ranging from fishermen to homeless people.
Apart from the budget savings, according to Agus, the government will also combine the budget for low-cost housing with the corporate social responsibility activities carried out by private companies and SOEs.
The government also plans to prepare a special budget in the Revised State Budget that was previously coordinated with the House’s Budget Agency.
Despite paying attention to low-cost housing program, the Minister of Finance will continue maintaining Indonesia’s healthy fiscal condition. Therefore, the government also has various commitments, among others, the need for fiscal risk reserves for fuel and electricity as well as the support on the primary weapon system (Alutsista).
