VIVAnews - The Yogyakarta Government said in a statement that the post-Mount Merapi eruption reconstruction has only to do with relief aid management.
Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X said the central government has prepared funds allocated for the reconstruction amounting to Rp600 billion, out of the total Rp1,2 trillion for two years.
"The reconstruction of a house costs Rp30 million, with an area of 6x6 meters for one family. This is a permanent house type. In addition to a house, each family will be provided 100 square meters of landplot in the relocation site ," said Sultan.
The sultan added that the realization of the reconstruction to date has been received by 640 families residing in the dangerous Merapi zone. The rest, as many as 750 families were not willing to relocate. "They did not want to, because they feel it is safe," he said.
Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Suswono said that regarding the compensation for the cows affected by Merapi, the government put some funds in the cow owners’ accounts which can be withdrawed if they are eligible.
"The funds were already deposited in the account. They only need to withdraw them. However, the mechanism is they must already have the cows to buy. A cow for a cow, otherwise the cash would not be used for buying a cow," he said.
Currently, he went on, most cattle farmers already disbursed the compensation deposited in their bank accounts. "Those who haven’t disbursed it are under 10 percent. That is very small. So it has been mostly resolved," he said.
The government’s funds that had been prepared for the compensation totals Rp100 billion. However, up to now, only Rp30 milion to Rp35 billion have been used. This is because assumingly only a few cows died because of the disaster.
"So the number is very small, only about 3,000 cows dead. We also used some funds for animal feed, amounting to about Rp35 billion," he said.
