VIVAnews - Deputy Trade Minister Mahendra Siregar said that the rise in non-oil exports was driven by the development of exports to Free Trade Area (FTA) partner countries. Following the 2004-2010 FTA, the market share of exports to the FTA partner-countries have increased.
"The market share before the 1996-2003 FTA was 56 percent, increasing to 63 percent after the FTA," said Siregar on Tuesday, August 2.
On the other hand, he went on, the proportion of Indonesia's exports to non-FTA partner countries dropped from 44 percent to 37 percent. In addition, since the FTA was in place, Indonesia's exports to FTA partner countries increased 14 percent annually, higher compared to before the FTA, which was only 4 percent a year. Meanwhile the growth in exports to non-FTA countries was only 10 percent in the period from 2004 to 2010.
"The export of industrial sector to FTA partner countries rose higher than that to non-FTA countries, and grew an average of 12.5 percent a year, while for non-FTA countries only 9.8 percent," said Mahendra.
The other development, said the deputy minister, is today more Indonesian exported products utilize the import duties release in the destination countries. From the tabulation of all the offices that issued the Certificate of Origin (SKA) of Indonesia's exports, more Indonesian exporters availed the facility of import duty release.
“The facility is part of the FTA and the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and is expected to enhance our exported products’ competitiveness in the destination countries," said Mahendra.
