VIVAnews - Two unlicensed houses of worship belonging to Christians were burned by some people in Kuansing regency, Riau, last night. The buildings were actually houses which were used as 'churches'.
The first scene took place in Sungai Langsat hamlet, Pasarbaru Village, Pangean District, while the second spot was situated in Logas village in Logas District.
When asked about this, Kuansing Police Crime and Investigation Division Chief, AKP Darmawan confirmed the incident. However, he insisted that the buildings which were burned were not churches, but rather houses used as a place of worship. "”The buildings were only made of board," he said.
Meanwhile, Pangean Regional Police Chief, AKP Nazarudin said, the assumed houses of worship were set on fire at around 10.30 p.m. "I received the information at 12.30 p.m (Indonesian Western Time). From the information I found in the scene, the incident happened at around 10.30 pm WIB," he said.
The houses were owned by AR Sitinjak. "The houses were easily burned, because they were made of planks, thus flammable," he said.
Currently the local police were investigating the perpetrators of the burning. Nazarudin called on all the residents to maintain the security and holiness of Ramadan.
