VIVAnews – Around 250,000 double identity cards are circulated among 7.3 million Jakartans. The implementation of e-ID card is deemed necessary in order to overcome this problem.

Head of the Population and Civil Registration Agency, Purba Hutapea, said the number included those belonging to residents of Depok and Bekasi, Greater Jakarta, who work in Jakarta.

The making of e-ID card that uses demographic data, and fingerprints as well as retina records is considered to be able to resolve this issue soon.

"This is guaranteed, (the e-ID card) can not be cloned," Purba said on Wednesday, August 3.

In addition, it is expected that the implementation of e-ID card, by the 2012 Regional Election would eliminate the possibility of fraud associated with multiple ID cards.

"We are coordinating with the Regional Election Commission (KPUD) regarding what to supply with. If the e-ID card is implemented according to plan, it would be good for the 2012 election because there will be no dual identity card throughout Indonesia," he said.

Purba also hoped the service of e-ID card can be completed in late 2011.

"There is already a number of identity serial numbers that are directly connected to district offices. Hopefully this program can be successful and the 2012 Elections can run in order," he said.

Member of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) of Jakarta constituency, Djan Faridz, said the double ID card issue needs to be resolved.

"It is feared that certain parties misused this during the 2012 Regional Elections," he said.

Faridz said, the figure of 250,000 double ID cards is only according to the data. But by estimation, the actual number could be much higher. The high number of commuters working in Jakarta is a strong evidence of the many owners of double ID cards.

"They have an ID card of the region of origin, and of Jakarta. The Jakarta ID cards are made to ease the administration of various things, such as work and permit letters," he explained.

As known, based on the agenda of Home Affairs Ministry, by 1 August, the implementation of e-ID card in Jakarta should have been started. But so far not all the devices have arrived in the villages. In some villages only some parts of the e-ID card devices have reached. Out of the 267 villages in Jakarta, only 10 districts have received the full e-ID devices.
