VIVAnews - A new political party will join the upcoming Indonesia’s 2014 General Election. The party is named the Union of Independent People (SRI). It openly admitted nominating former Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati as a central figure and a role model.
However, SRI Chairman of National Executive Board Damian Taufan acknowledged, Sri Mulyani has yet to give any statement regarding her willingness to be a presidential candidate.
"There is no certainty yet from her (Sri Mulyani) whether she is willing to be nominated or not because she's still under a work contract with the World Bank. Of course she won’t say she woulGives d run (for president). And we will not ask her to do that either. We're only nominating her," said Taufan, on Thursday, August 4.
"If she nods to the offer, that would be improper. That is unethical and could damage her integrity," said Taufan.
However, the party remained determined to nominate Sri Mulyani as a presidential candidate. "We intend to nominate her from the beginning," said Taufan.
SRI Party was established in Jakarta, May 2, 2011. The chairman of the Party is held by D. Taufan, National Secretary by Yoshi Erlina, and treasurer Susy Rizky Wiyantini. A number of figures who became members of the advisory council are, among others, A. Rahman Tolleng, Arbi Sanit, Fikri Jufri, Rocky Gerung, and Dana Iswara.
The party claimed to have representatives in all the 33 provinces. Currently, the board of the party from the central level to the regional level were preparing to meet the requirements of the political party verification process of which deadline is August 22, 2011
