VIVAnews – Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X was looking for a solution for 750 people who resided in the slopes of Mount Merapi, who were not willing to be relocated. This is despite they were in the danger zone of Merapi.
According to the Sultan, the central government gave him a week to seek the solutions to the problem. "We will engage in dialogue and find solutions so that they are willing to relocate," said the Sultan in Yogyakarta.
Sultan explained that for those who want to relocate they will be given a house of 6x6 meters wide worth Rp30 million and land of 100 meters wide free of cost. "For those who want to relocate and find their own land, they are free to do that but the government still compensate for 100 meters of land in cash. This is our proposal, according to the aspirations," he explained.
The land owned by the residents who would be willing to relocate will be transformed into public forests. The proposal was already submitted to the central government. It was proposed that the land would still be owned by residents so that they could still grow plants and vegetables.
The government will provide funds amounting to Rp1.35 trillion within three years (2011-2013) for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the victims of post-Mount Merapi eruption in Yogyakarta.
Based on the results of the coordination session between the governor and Coordinating Minister for the Economy Hatta Rajasa in Jakarta, August 2, the budget would comprise five sectors, namely the housing sector amounting to Rp247 billion, infrastructure Rp417.7 billion, economy Rp222.2 billion, social affairs Rp149.3 billion and other inter-sector facilities Rp314, 6 billion.
