VIVAnews - Rioting broke out in England. It was started with the protests against the shooting of Mark Duggan, an alleged gangster, by police. The unrest got out of hand and spread to several cities. The perpetrators who were mostly unemployed young people who were not satisfied with the economic conditions started a hassle and looted stores.
The result was fatal. A number of buildings were damaged, burned, and plundered. Three people were killed, and 1,200 rioters were arrested. In addition, there were fears that the unrest in the UK will develop into a racial riot.
Such conditions caused a number of British tourists who were vacationing in Bali, Indonesia, canceled their return to England. One of them is John (27), a tourist from London, UK. He claimed he opted to remain in Bali because the unrest has yet to die down. "I had been in Bali when the riot took place. I immediately contacted my family in London. Luckily, they were safe. I stayed back in Bali as long as the unrest is not yet abated," said John, at Kuta Beach, on Thursday, August 11.
John said he hopes the local police can immediately overcome the riots. "I hope the local security forces can immediately neutralize the situation. Only after it is neutral and safe will I think of going back to London, "he said.
On separate occasion, Sheila (23), a Birrmingham tourist, recounted the same uneasiness. Sheila, who was on holiday in Bali with her boyfriend admitted she had to extend her holiday in Bali because the unrest has not yet let up.
"I came here with my boyfriend. I should have gone back to Birmingham this afternoon. However, because of the riots, I must extend my vacation," said Sheila.
Sheila claimed not knowing until when she would stay in Bali. She herself hopes that the unrest can be quickly resolved. Sheila said to hear the news about the riots from her colleague in Birmingham through the social networking site, Facebook.
