VIVAnews - Trade Ministry said in a statement that Indonesia may book fastest growth in exports among other developing countries as long as Indonesia's value of exports in 2011 would reach US$200 billion.

Director General of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Trade, Dedi Shaleh, said only 20 countries worldwide that have achieved more than US$200 million worth of exports.

"Belgia is the most improved country in exports with three years while the US and Russia made it in five years," said Dedi Shaleh in Jakarta today, August 15.

On the other hand, Brazil and India have doubled their exports within five years. Should Indonesia manage to gain US$200 billion worth of exports by the end of 2011, Indonesia would level with Brazil and India.

Dedi said even a country as developed as Germany could only double export to US$200 billion in 12 years; England, 14 years; France, 10 years, Spain 10 years; and Japan, 7 years.

Meanwhile, as for developing countries, Arab Saudi gained US$200 billion in 26 years; China, 6 years; Singapore, 10 years; Mexiko, 8 years; and Malaysia, 7 years.

"If Indonesia can hit the target within five years, it would be excellent," he said.

As reported earlier, Indonesia's exports in the first semester of 2011 were close to US$100 billion in value, 36 percent growth compared to last year's.
